Program Description

Sustainable architecture focuses on minimizing a building’s impact on the surrounding environment. Eco-friendly design impacts every aspect of the construction process, including:

Selecting renewable, non-toxic building materials
Maximizing energy efficiency (using water recycling, solar panels, efficient electrical and HVAC systems, etc.)
Ensuring local ecosystems aren’t disrupted by the structure
Sustainable landscaping (using native plants, rainwater recycling, maximizing available natural resources, and limiting waste)
The Canadian sustainable architecture industry is strong and growing fast. Consumers are motivated to preserve the environment—plus, they know that green building techniques can save big money by increasing energy efficiency.

Over the past several years, we’ve seen a large increase in the number of eco-friendly building projects in Canada. Many architecture and construction firms have begun to specialize in this field, including residential, commercial, and institutional projects.
